Space Swap

Now [info]space-swap has been revealed, I can talk all about it.

First, I got an excellent Galaxy Quest world-building gift:
The Quest Continues (1668 words) by tablelamp
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Summary: Messages from an online Galaxy Quest community, circa 1999-2000

It’s delightfully nostalgic. And for the first time in an exchange I shook my gift! That was because when I went to upload mine I realised the number of gifts I have had gone up and there were something like eight fics uploaded at that point. So by shook I mean I looked at the fandoms list and only one of them was something I’d asked for. And since I knew I’d asked for world building, I wasn’t sure what other shaking I could do. So I didn’t. I was excited to be getting it, so further shaking didn’t seem necessary.

And now for the things I wrote:

My recipient asked for Star Trek: Enterprise with Trip/T’Pol and various things they liked. One of the things I thought about writing was their request for five times they encounter sex pollen, except I could only think of one. And since it involved T’Pol winding Trip up by claiming discipline would solve that problem, I didn’t think it was what my recipient was looking for.

But they liked time loops and them healing after baby Elizabeth’s death, so I wrote that. With a Star Trek-y like scientific explanation for the time loop.

Fandom: Star Trek: Enterprise
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: T’Pol/Charles “Trip” Tucker III

Summary: After the death of baby Elizabeth, fate or science gives Trip and T’Pol time to heal.

And then, like with other exchanges I got worried my recipient wouldn’t like it. And I kept thinking of the sex pollen prompt. And I thought what if there’s a time per season, so they do get closer to each other. So I wrote that too. Although I had to go and look for sex pollen fic and information because I realised I didn’t quite know what it was all about.

The Discipline Compulsion (2377 words)

Summary: He was on an alien planet, alone with T’Pol and yet again there was sex pollen.

And then I went looking for requests I’d bookmarked for treats and only managed to get one done. For which I looked at my [info]genprompt-bingo card, did some searching for the legendary beasts square and found a Wikipedia page with lists of mythical beasts. I noticed there was a ‘chicken’ category, so had to look, of course, and discovered there was a fire-breathing chicken. Which sounded like too much fun not to write.

Technically I wrote it for an Ian/Barbara request, but it’s so pre-het that after a long think I decided not to tag it Ian/Barbara. And then when I came to upload it to my website I couldn’t remember whether I’d tagged it or not on AO3 and had to go and check.
